Training Mission

Mission
Provide facilitator-trainers with the scientific foundation, theoretical framework, constructs, knowledge, skills, tools, and self-efficacy that are critical to ensure the successful translation of the developers’ vision and passion for translating successful research into successful practice.
Goals
The goals of this training are to help facilitator-trainers:
-
Convey program developers’ passion and vision for both the original research and for translating that research into practice.
-
Develop a thorough understanding of the rigorous scientific research methods used in the original study, the results, and their relation to evidenced-based outcomes.
-
Increase their understanding of the theoretical framework curriculum core elements, implementation core elements, and key characteristics that are the basis for the curriculum program.
-
Increase their skill and comfort level training facilitators on this curriculum with passion and enthusiasm, utilizing the concepts of caring and connecting to enhance skills that are necessary for their trainees to successfully implement the intervention and obtain evidenced-based outcomes.
-
Determine the needs of their group and conduct the training according to their needs (e.g., are they conducting a research study using the curriculum or are they implementing a program in their community/school?)
-
Develop a thorough understanding of the implementation fidelity and why it is important for evidenced-based outcomes (and how to measure it, if applicable).
-
Understand how to adapt the intervention for various settings and populations and when to involve the developer.
Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
-
Explain accurately the rigorous scientific methodology used in the original study and how it led to the evidence-based outcomes.
-
Describe the theory that guided the development of the program.
-
Demonstrate an understanding of the unique needs of the target population(s).
-
Demonstrate the key concepts of caring and connecting which are necessary for facilitators to successfully implement the intervention and obtain evidence-based outcomes.
-
Distinguish between intervention core elements, implementation core elements, and key characteristics of the intervention activities.
-
Outline the process for appropriate curriculum adaptations for various implementation settings (small vs. large group, classroom vs. community, single facilitation vs. co-facilitation, single gender vs. mixed).
-
Utilize a wide range of learning styles, facilitation skills and experiences within a single training.
-
Detail the data methods and evaluation tools involved in implementing the intervention during the original study in order to achieve the evidence-based outcomes.
-
Explain strategies for monitoring fidelity over time and across settings.
-
Discuss strategies for management challenges that may present during program implementation.
