A film based on the short story THE HARD WAY, written by 14-year-old Shawn Nabors of Brooklyn, NY, winner of the 2004/5 HEAR ME National HIV/AIDS Story-Writing Contest. Two friends, Kenrick and Miguel, share everything except their philosophy on girls. Miguel is faithful to his one and only girlfriend, Renee. Kenrick is a player with “an appetite for girls”. When Kenrick confronts Miguel about not practicing safer sex, Miguel questions Kenrick’s status as a player. After Kenrick’s father pays him a visit and advises, “You are the choices you make, son. You have to ask yourself if you’re making the right choices”, Kenrick decides to get an HIV test. When Miguel decides to support Kenrick and get tested as well, we learn about personal vulnerability to HIV through surprising results. 18 minutes

This five time award-winning video is recommended for use with the Be Proud! Be Responsible! curriculum and Making Proud Choices! curriculum. Host Rae Dawn Chong explains HIV and AIDS, how the virus is and is not transmitted, promotes an understanding for people who are HIV positive and offers teen strategies for negotiating abstinence as a primary means of HIV prevention. 16 minutes

The Teen Files: The Truth About Sex forces teens to face the hard-hitting realities of having sex too young, including unwanted pregnancies and STDs. Two teens discuss the struggles of becoming parents at a young age, while another couple faces the possibility that they could be pregnant. A group of teenagers tour a microbiology lab, where hundreds of cases of sexually transmitted diseases are diagnosed each year, and they participate in a mock AIDs test. Lisa, a 33-year-old heterosexual woman shares her story about having full blown AIDs. 45 minutes

After a friend dies of AIDs, an urban teenager and her single mother are confronted by the need to become more assertive about safer sex. After a heated discussion, Aiysha heeds her mother’s advice for taking precautions. She talks to her boyfriend about their past sexual experiences and about using condoms. Aiysha’s mother, however, finds it difficult to follow her own advice and she struggles for a way to discuss the issue of condoms with her partner. Also available as a series. 17 minutes.
