Elsie, a single Latina mother, struggles with her apprehension about contracting AIDS and her fear of losing her new partner, Luis. When Elsie learns that her neighbor is sick with AIDS, she realizes that she too may be at risk of HIV infection. Elsie is able to ask Luis to use condoms. When he refuses her request, Elsie leaves his apartment. After taking this important first step to protect herself, Elsie compassionately reaches out to her sick neighbor.
